The St Lucia Bed with High Footboard is built from solid oak with natural cane rattan panels set within the headboard. The design reflects furniture traditions of the late 1930s and early 1940s, when modernist forms were often combined with natural materials and carved detail.
A carved oak medallion sits at the center of the headboard. The woven cane rattan introduces a natural texture within the oak frame, a material long used in furniture for its strength and lightness.
The high footboard version creates a more enclosed profile while preserving the proportions of the St Lucia design. The bed is constructed as a platform system and does not require a box spring.
The frame, legs, and carved headboard elements are built from kiln-dried solid oak. The woven cane rattan is tensioned within solid oak panels to provide stability and durability.
Flat panels within the footboard use commercial-grade plywood to reduce movement and prevent splitting over time.
A solid oak center rail runs the length of the bed and is supported by three oak legs. Sixteen removable solid mahogany slats form a ventilated platform rated to support up to 1,000 pounds.
The headboard ships in two vertical sections to allow easier access through stairwells, elevators, and narrow hallways. Side rails bolt securely into the headboard and footboard for a rigid frame structure.
The slats can be removed to allow compatibility with most adjustable split king or queen bed bases.
All visible wood surfaces are finished in Modern Oak multi-step lacquer by Akzo Nobel.
Crafted in Indonesia by furniture makers experienced in solid hardwood construction.
